The role of welfare professionals is to support individuals and families who have various welfare problems in order that they can continue to function as part of the community. For this task, it is necessary to attain the capability to solve and control physical, mental, social and/or financial problems based on scientific evidence. When welfare is underpinned by scientific theories, it is welfare in the true sense of the word. In this context, Department of Social Welfare is striving to develop individuals who can think scientifically and utilize such ability in their welfare work.
Social changes in recent years have triggered transformation in what is called for in welfare. There are growing needs for the mechanism to ensure collaboration of medical care, healthcare and welfare, where social assistance is provided to elderly and/or disabled people to continue to live in their own home community. Under such circumstances, it has become necessary to perceive the people in need of welfare service from the angles of nursing and medical care as well in order to improve their quality of life. To meet these needs, our department facilitates students to study a broad range of fields including nursing and medical care ensuring that they can utilize the comprehensive knowledge and skills in their future welfare practice.
In addition to such skills as scientific thinking and practical and applicable skills supported by comprehensive knowledge, the welfare professionals-to-be must acquire in-depth understanding of people. For this reason, we help our students to acquire the holistic comprehension of people as psychological, social, and personal beings, as well as the communication skills for mutual understanding with others. Sincere wish and earnest support for wellbeing of people - these are the essence of welfare service. Our goal is to nurture the individuals who are ready to dedicate themselves to welfare work with extensive knowledge and advanced skills.
